Peter's Fountains at Peterhof

Peter's Fountains at Peterhof

These fountains very off the chart oppulent. What I have been racking my brain trying to figure out is how they worked without electric pumps back in the day? Gavity feed creating the pressure? If you know, please leave a comment.

Hey Ryan, this is from wikipedia.

"Perhaps the greatest technological achievement of Peterhof is that all of the fountains operate without the use of pumps. Water is supplied from natural springs and collects in reservoirs in the Upper Gardens. The elevation difference creates the pressure that drives most of the fountains of the Lower Gardens, including the Grand Cascade. The Samson Fountain is supplied by a special aqueduct, over four km in length, drawing water and pressure from a high-elevation source."

So my guess it is a little similar to how the Romans did their fountains using the force of gravity and aquaducts always at a down grade.

See I knew it had to have something to do with a gravity feed. The difference being the springs providing the extra boost.

Sorry, Ryan, the Gravity thing is completely false. DO NOT BELIEVE everything you read on the internet.

In 1703, an alien spaceship landed near Peter the Great's home. They befriended Peter and left him with four alien workers and an anti-matter power unit. The water is actually sucked from the ocean via pumps that run off the anti-matter device. You are lucky to have visited the fountains as three of the four aliens have died and the last one is 362 years which is very old for this species of alien. When he dies it is unknown how long the fountains will continue to run. The only instructions for the anti-matter device were given to Peter the Great and, being a man, he threw them away without reading them. This is very sad as had he saved them we would not be so dependent on oil today. The fact that the fountains are powered by an anti-matter device has been kept from the world by Peter's wife and descendants who did not want the world to know he wasn't so great after all.
